Jamie's belly was bought as a gift to her. She wasn't aware she was getting it. Her friend Samantha decided on the theme which was Valentines, hearts, and her 5 children. Jamie's 5th was due on Valentine's day. Inside the belly I did a colorful heart tree on bubbly snow. On the outside was a watercolor like rainbow gradation with black intertwining hearts that I did in Sharpie marker. I wrote each of her kids names in on the branches with the heart branches representing the parents and their love for them. I love how colorful it turned out.

Shannon's was supposed to be a birthday present from me. However I didn't get started on it till 2 days before her birthday. January has been a bit crazy. My husband deployed for the 1st time and the pumpkin and I went to stay with my parents for a few months. While getting that all settled life got in the way of starting her belly. So on her birthday she received a canvas that was just purple and turquoise with some pencil lines on it. She didn't know I was doing one for her and I got to pick whatever I wanted to do. I really like doing the henna designs, I learned a lot about them from a couple of girls my first year teaching art. I love the intricate designs. Thank goodness she liked my idea. * the picture of the guy with the belly is my brother's friend Jake. He thought it would be fun to pose with it for me. Julie learned about me through a good friend of mine. She wanted a belly to represent their love of being on the water in Grand Traverse Bay. I was so happy to do this since I spend most of my childhood on Lake Michigan so I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to put a speed boat on there but I just found that no matter what I did it never fit the painting. The belly represents what much of the Grand Traverse coastline looks like, the outside is a map of the bay with a nautical compass rose. I attached 2 small petosky stones to the beach after I splatter painted it to look like rocky sand. The sky is a partly cloudy day with little sea gulls flying over a tiny light house. This belly brings all sorts of warm memories. Lyndsay's belly has been my most challenging painting yet. I worried over this one SO much! I know nothing about racing, nothing. I am not sure that I know much more now other than I could not get cars to work for me. I rushed to get this done in time for Christmas, luckily it arrived on Christmas Eve. I couldn’t help taking the picture by my tree. I really like how it turned out. It’s a little more abstract than I originally imagined. C’est la vie. I had the opportunity to do a free advertisement with Toot Your Own Horn on her new blog. Please go check it out at http://tyohblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/new-life-in-color.html I am really excited to be featured. Please leave a comment to let her know how much you like New Life in Color.
If you are an online bussiness or blog check out her facebook page! Occasionally I get to paint on bellies. My friend Kim asked me to paint her belly for Halloween as a costume. It also became the way she was going to reveal the name of her new little boy to her family. We had a great time chatting while I decorated her belly with the moon theme, which will also be the theme to wall painting as well. Megan wanted a Navy submarine on her belly for her husband. I made the undersea decoration around it like a comic because her son was in to Bubble Guppies. The outside of the belly represents her pride in her husband's job. I delivered her belly with a special surprise! Daisy Jean Photography took pictures of her belly for her. If you like these pictures please like Daisy Jean Photography on Facebook. Check out her website and sign up for her newsletter at www.daisyjeanphotography.com Occasionally I find myself painting on bellies instead of paintings resembling them. this is a Halloween belly I did for a local photographer, Nancy of Daisy Jean Photography. I had so much fun painting on this belly and meeting Nancy. I really hope we can do it again! If you live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia please check out on Facebook at Daisy Jean Photography or at her website www.daisyjeanphotography.com Holly asked for poppies with a tree, so I decided to go for a folk art feel. This is the only painting so far that is considered multimedia. Meaning that it is paint on canvas with paper cut out leaves. It suited the piece perfectly! On the base of the tree I paid tribute to her little family. i just love how bright this one turned out. Britiany's bump was inspired by the month she gave birth, December! She wanted something to remind her that she gave birth on the 1st day it snowed last year. When I asked her about the color she wanted I decided to make it girly for her little snow flake. Her room has pink and purple. Britiany said she really like the high contrast paintings I do, so I did a blue gradation to the waning moon that was present on the day Little Snow Flake was born. I had a great time splatter painting the background in my shower as well as researching different designs for snowflakes. This is certainly one of my favorites so far. |
