Julie learned about me through a good friend of mine. She wanted a belly to represent their love of being on the water in Grand Traverse Bay. I was so happy to do this since I spend most of my childhood on Lake Michigan so I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to put a speed boat on there but I just found that no matter what I did it never fit the painting. The belly represents what much of the Grand Traverse coastline looks like, the outside is a map of the bay with a nautical compass rose. I attached 2 small petosky stones to the beach after I splatter painted it to look like rocky sand. The sky is a partly cloudy day with little sea gulls flying over a tiny light house. This belly brings all sorts of warm memories.
