Laura is a midwife I met at peace.love.swap in Virginia Beach. I offered to make a painting for her office for advertisement. Instead of doing another belly of myself I made one for her. She originally wanted something subtle in blues and cream like her office. After some discussion she also wanted white tulips, a cross on a hill, a seafoam green sky and the phrase be strong in the lord on it. I had tons of fun researching and figuring out what and where to put things. I added the little butterfly to put in a little pop of color.

Emily was the winner of the Dear Olympia Blog Giveaway. I was super excited to do this for her since her sweet baby is now 17. Her request was fun. Images that represent her being a southern girl, her son's love of hunting and fishing, their love of sports and more specifically Ole Miss. They love spending time at Ft. Walton Beach so I took that and ran with it. I love the beachy colors of turquoise, navy, brown, and blue. I wanted it to be calming and be something they would both love to look at. Becca has accomplished a lot for a 25 year old. As a single mother of 3 she has managed to work close to full time at several jobs, go to school full time, and raise her beautiful girls. If that wasn't enough in December she graduated in December with a degree in nursing, past her nursing board and got an advantageous internship that allows her to spend more time with her girls. Usually I don't know my clients like this but she is also my youngest sister in law and she has no idea I made this for her. I got a hold of a mutual friend of our's to find out the extra details I just didn't know. Mainly favorite flower and color, I was told roses and pink. Becca also has a very strong faith in God and I wanted to make sure that it is incorporated into the work. The pink and grey flowers are an artistic representation of roses. The bible quote I decided on is "She is clothed in dignity & stregnth and she laughs without fear of the future." Proverbs 31:25. I felt it suited her perfectly. I picked the pink on pink damask with a little help from some friend here at home. Its delicate and feminine. It reminds me of some of the Persian prints I have seen. She has Persian ancestry and that's the closest I could come for now. This has to be the brightest colored painting I have done yet! Karissa is a friend of mine that I met living in Virginia. As things go with the Navy her family was moved to another state, very far away, and she was VERY pregnant. Needless to say I was unable to trace her belly in person as we had hoped but I was still able to use a picture. She asked that I make one to match her newest little one's nursery, Dena Happi Tree owls. I asked if she wanted something in there to represent her first little one, we decided lady bugs. I made it bright and colorful and girly. As you can see with the pictures below I reworked this painting a couple of times till I got it right. I am very happy with how it turned out and I can't wait for her to get it! After I made the 5x7 mini bellies I decided to make 8x10 standard bellies. They sell in my etsy store, they are not custom but made to sell. Let me know what you think of the designs and if there is anything you'd like to see in the future.
Holly asked for poppies with a tree, so I decided to go for a folk art feel. This is the only painting so far that is considered multimedia. Meaning that it is paint on canvas with paper cut out leaves. It suited the piece perfectly! On the base of the tree I paid tribute to her little family. i just love how bright this one turned out. |
