I never thought I would say this but this was one of the hardest bellies I have done yet. I really like how it turned out but I reworked it several times before I was happy with it. This painting was commissioned by an old neighbor of mine for a coworker. I really hope she liked it.

I had a great time with Kim's second belly. Kim's mom won one and the other was all her. Her 1st little guy was a sea turtle, or at least his bedroom has turtles in it. i wanted to make it colorful but not to kiddish because I wanted it to grow with him. Kim decided on the sunset on the outside and I am really she did. It is such a great contrast. I am super excited to say that I will be taking the month of August and a couple weeks in September off because my husband is finally home from deployment. I feel really lucky to have met so many fine photographers since moving to the Hampton Roads area. This time I worked with Keely Julson of Kiwi Marie Photography. She made our homecoming special! If you are in the Hampton roads area I highly recommend Kiwi Marie for all your photography needs (even maternity and newborn). Check out our blog post, give her Facebook page a like and tell her I sent you! http://www.kiwimariephoto.com/2012/08/best-family-reunion-hampton-roads-homecoming-photographer I traced Kim's belly in person. Like we had discussed at Halloween I did the moon belly. I decided to do the sun on the outside like the traditional sun and moon pictures. I did the swirls with van Gogh in mind. I did the same moon as I did on her belly but refined it a little. I put copper studs around the outer edge of the sun. Deb's belly was purchased by her friend John during a benefit auction. I don't do them often but it was for a good cause. Deb is 37 weeks pregnant with twins and was scheduled to have them the next week. This painting is based off of 2 pictures from a trip to Jamaica. I textured the rocks using saran wrap and again I splatter painted the beach for that sandy look. I really love that this brings her back to a peaceful time in her life. I decided to offer several different types of sample bellies. When I stared to work on them they were just for fun. I thought I would have them up to give people ides. Then I decided to sell them. 5x7 Mini bellies are for the instant gift on the go. Check out my esty store to buy one today or see them in person at Bee Mine Too in Richland, MI
In an effort to do more advertising I made a sample for Bee Mine Too boutique in Richland, MI. It’s me at 39 weeks (the day before I was induced in to labor). I did the outside with traditional sailor tattoos. I love tattoos, and recently I have really gotten in to the Sailor Jerry style tattoo. They remind me of my husband. The pin up is the one on my husband's arm. Since he is still deployed at this time I did a sunset with a silhouette of his ship heading out across the Atlantic. You can see this painting in person at the Bee Mine Too Children’s Consignment 8080 N 32nd Street Richland, MI 49083 Like Bee Mine Too's Facebook Page and visit her website www.beeminetoo.com Shawn's belly was a fun one to do. She posed in person and we discussed what she wanted in her belly. She wanted a tree of life, her little girl was born in December so she wanted snow. I decided on the camouflage and the dog tags to represent the pride she has in her husband for serving his country. Pink was the color of choice for her baby girl so the whimsical tree has pink leaves with a splatter painted snowy back ground. The dog tags has her baby's birth stats and their wedding date on it. Carlina messaged me about doing a Sarasota Springs, NY belly. More specifically Congress Park and the carousel. I loved the idea but I was really stumped on how to do this. I had recently learned about a xerox transfer technique on Pinterest. (I am a little obsessed with Pinterest) I found the images that I wanted and had my mom photocopy them for me at work. First you paint the canvas with a base coat and while it is still wet you press the copy to the paint and let it dry. Now mine did not turn out as clearly as the example I was going off of but I am really happy with what happened from there. Before I go any further I should mention that Carlina's is a special order, it is only 11x14. Normally I really don't like going smaller as there is less to work with but i really don't feel like this could have been done on a larger scale. So after it dried I had to rub away the paper using a wet cloth. I had to do this twice since the first time didn't take. This belly took MONTHS to do but it was so worth it. You can see the carousel building print but the horses ended up being a template so I got them accurate. I am really glad that it turned out the way it did. |
